What is a Non-Resident NIE Number?
The NIE number is the document that identifies a foreigner in Spain. It is required to carry out any legal or economic procedure, from dealing with an Inheritance or purchasing a Spanish property. The non-resident NIE number is for people who either start living in the country or carry out legal procedures in Spain.
It is important to remember you cannot work with this NIE.
How long does your Non-Resident NIE last?
Your non resident NIE number will never expire. The number will always remain the same. However, after 3 months you will be required to renew the paperwork in order to be able to operate with any authority.
What happens if you cannot visit one of the Spanish Consulates?
If you cannot visit the Spanish consulate closest to you, we can apply for the Spanish NIE on your behalf as your ‘personal representative’. We would require a Power of Attorney to be drawn up giving authority to us to act on your behalf.
